Steve & Sandy Smith

1974

You will not remember me (Steve), but I knew you and your brothers. I met your Mum and Dad at Christmas 1971 (I think). I had always attended St. Barnabas on the Oldmixon Estate, Weston-s-Mare. I was 19 and coming back from Uni for the holidays. I just 'clicked' with Bob and Gladys and I very much blessed by Bob's care and concern for me. We often prayed together and when I met Sandy (in Birmingham), she was keen to meet them. Both your Mum & Dad were very affirming of our relationship and impending marriage. Bob married Sandy & I at Londonderry Baptist Church, Birmingham, in August 1974. I don't think Gladys could attend as she was looking after the children. We continued to see them both whilst they were still at St. Barnabas. They also came and stayed with us in Leicester. We benefited then from their loving care, prayer and ministry. They saw our firstborn in 1978. After that our contact reduced as we dealt with bring up our family and they moved on to their new ministry, some distance away from our home in Leicester. We continued to write every Christmas to each other and we shared our family and spiritual journey down the years. I think we never met again after about 1979, until we sought out Gladys in Diss. We were saddened when Bob died as he had valiantly fought the cancer over the years. We now await the Great Reunion in Heaven and look forward to a hastening of our Lord's return ("Come, Lord Jesus"). Bob & Gladys were both very influential in our early years and we have loved them down the years. May you, Samuel and Tim be filled with many happy memories of your Mum at this time. Isn't it wonderful to know that she is more alive now in heaven than she ever was on earth. The same Promise is for us!!! Please feel free to place as much of this email on your 'remembrance email' as you feel is appropriate. God's blessing of Peace and Reassurance be yours, With love in Christ, Steve & Sandy Smith
